Wang calculators pose specific repair challenges and this has driven the development of specific repair tools. An approach to repair with details about the use of diagnostic microcode is in the Wang 700 Fault Finding document in the Data section.
ROM Reader and ROM Emulator
The ROM Reader and ROM Emulator were originally developed for the 600 series and are fully compatible with the 700 series.
Diagnostic Microcode
A completely dead machine is very challenging to approach and custom diagnostic microcode is very helpful. See the link above for details about the custom microcode developed to assist with diagnosis and repair of 700 family machines.
700 Series Test ROM
Two banks of rotary switches allow the construction of two microcode words which appear at successive even/odd locations in the microcode address space. This is a powerful diagnostic tool, allowing one to focus on very specific parts of the logic engine.
