The Wang 600 machines are completely microcode driven and a single bit ROM error in a critical path will render the machine dead with no display or keyboard response. In a rarely-used path microcode error(s) may render a rarely used function unusable or cause rare crashes/lockups.
The ROM Emulator has been designed to replace defective microcode ROM and to extend the ROM to provide alternative ROM images and diagnostic routines. See wirerom in the Wang section for further information about the design and use of the emulator.
Microcode Images for 600 series
DoPECC seeks to collect and maintain a library of microcode ROM images for 600 series machines. The current collection is listed below. The files are in binary format that can be loaded into the ROM Emulator or Douglas Miller's Wang 600 Simulator (opens in new tab) .
