IME Digicorder DG308 Shipping damage
This machine had a long and troublesome shipping journey, having been mis-delivered, returned and re-sent. The packing looked pretty beaten-up on final delivery and there was good reason to be anxious about the state of this rather rare machine.
The first impression was relieving, nothing was badly broken. Closer inspection however showed that the entire chassis was bent with misalignment of the main unit. The chassis and covers are all steel, of good thickness, and this seemed to have protected most of the delicate internal parts and electronics.
The Digicorder is built with the same nice modular construction as the IME calculators and it was not too difficult to separate all the main modules from the chassis, straighten the chassis and re-mount the modules. This gave a good result. Inspection of the main modules showed only on other type of damage, the PCB behind the control panel buttons was cracked, probably from extreme pressure on the buttons. The PCB will be straightforward to fix and no other parts seemed to be damaged.
So despite the very rough shipping, the robust steel chassis and covers had protected the delicate parts pretty well.
